Summer knew there were reasons to celebrate lately. Yesterday was the Fourth of July and today new students were arriving. All things to be happy about. Though Summer couldn't find a reason to be celebratory about anything, not when yesterday was such a terrible anniversary.

She'd pretty much just stayed in her room hiding from everything. She considered calling Julie Cooper just to see if she was holding up okay after a year. Summer just wasn't good with the whole getting her feelings out thing, though. Funny, considering the conversation she had with Savannah the other day.

She ended up not calling for that reason. Today, however, it was as though her cellphone were taunting her just sitting there on the table beside her bed. After a moment of staring at it, she dialed a number.

"Hi Julie," she said the the woman on the other end. "It's Summer...just wanted to see how you're doing..."

In the end, she was glad to have made that phone call. They both probably needed to talk about it. Summer actually felt a little better.

The first thing Summer did when she woke up was check her email. She continued to check it off and on all day. This had become her routine a few days ago when she hadn't heard from Shawn. He had sent a few and then they had just stopped. She thought about sending constant emails, but she didn't want to seem like a needy, clingy girlfriend. Okay, one email couldn't hurt, right?

After sending a quick one to ask how he was doing, Summer sat on the floor with Pancakes. Normally, this was something she'd talk to Marissa about. Of course, that wasn't possible now. She missed her friend and she missed Shawn. She really wished things could be the way they were.

Summer was glad to be back in Fandom. She didn't want to be home right now. It was all too much of a reminder of Marissa, of how things should have been. Everything was changed now. Newport just didn't feel like home anymore. )

Summer's Fourth of July was spent with her Newport friends on the beach watching fireworks and hanging out. A year ago, she wouldn't have even noticed Seth Cohen. This year, she was hanging out with him and Ryan and Marissa. And she actually had a good time. She was also glad to see Marissa and Ryan over the whole on again off again thing as that was really annoying. Last night, they seemed to be happy.

But that would soon change... )

[ooc: warning for depressing subject matter behind the cut; if any of you are familiar with the S3 finale, you know what to expect. Otherwise, beware of spoilers. NFB due to distance. Not for interaction, though ooc comments are always welcome.]

Summer was taking a break. Sort of. Matthew was napping at the moment and Devon was with her daddy, who she seemed rather attached to.

That left Marissa, who was sitting on the floor, petting Pancakes.

Cut for length and season three spoilers... )

Summer couldn't cook, but the kids should really eat something. So she did what she knows best. She picked up the phone and ordered Chinese. Then she set up a small picnic for herself, Devon, and Marissa while Matthew was off visiting his Uncle Wyatt.

"Mom, it's not a holiday," Marissa pointed out.

Summer blinked. "I know that."

"We usually have Chinese if it's a holiday like Thanksgiving or Chrismukkah," Marissa said.

Summer rolled her eyes. "Well, here, in this timeline, we have Chinese even when it isn't a holiday."

Marissa shrugged. "Okay."

That would be when Devon started stabbing the sweet and sour chicken really hard with her fork. All Summer could do was laugh. Oh yes, this was definitely Summer's kid.

snarkyprincess: (Depressed)
Summer was in a very strange mood. She was feeling kind of depressed for what seemed like no reason at all. At the moment, she had her laptop open in front of her. She missed her friends back home. Emailing them seemed like a good idea.

Dear Seth )

Dear Marissa )

Summer wasn't feeling any better. And she'd probably have a lot of questions to answer later. Maybe emailing her friends while feeling emo wasn't the best idea ever.
