It was a beautiful day in Orange County, perfect for a high school graduation.
Summer had promised Seth she would attend his graduation since he had attended hers. So she was sitting out in the audience with Julie and Kaitlin Cooper, who were also there to support Seth and Ryan. Summer, like those two, missed Marissa's presence.
After some boring speeches, followed by the impressive Valedictorian speech from Taylor Townsend, it was time for the graduates to receive their diplomas. Summer took notice as Ryan's name was called. She found herself having thoughts that she really shouldn't be having.
"He is looking hot in that graduation gown," Summer said, immediately looking embarrassed for saying it out loud.
"He looks even better shirtless," Kaitlin contributed shamelessly.
"Uh huh," Julie added before admonishing her daughter. "I mean, you shouldn't be thinking about that."
Summer snickered. Some things never changed.
"Wow," she said quietly when Seth retrieved his diploma. She was not supposed to be attracted to him! What the hell was going on?
It didn't get much better when she approached her friends after the ceremony.
"Summer Roberts, I heard you were back in town!" Taylor announced, rushing over to hug her. That was Taylor. Having no problem hugging someone who made fun of her when they were tweens.
"Yeah, have been for about a month now," Summer replied, returning the hug awkwardly.
"You'll have to tell me all about the East Coast. It must have been freezing with all the snow," Taylor gushed. "Where are you going to school? I got accepted into the Sorbonne. Isn't that Teriff?"
Summer wanted to tell the girl to slow down. She also wanted to tell her hormones the same thing because Ryan and Seth were still looking hot. "Yeah, awesome. I'm going to Berkeley."
"Oh, Bay Area. I'll have to visit when I'm back home from France!" Taylor squealed, pulling her camera out. "Oooh, I want pictures! Ryan! Seth! Get over here. Summer, go on, get in there with them."
Taylor practically pushed Summer in between both boys. Summer tried not to flail or think impure thoughts. It was a losing battle. Oh yes. Er...no! No no no! This was bad. Especially when Seth leaned over and kissed her cheek.
"Oh no," she muttered.
Seth turned toward her. "Don't worry, Summer, I won't try to steal you from what's his name."
Chris! Yes, that was who she decided to think about.
"Uh, I need to go," Summer announced. "Congrats Atwood. You, too, Cohen. And Taylor. See you guys later!"
With that, she rushed off toward the parking lot, her cellphone already out. There was only one person she needed to call.
[For the boyfriend, mostly, but phone calls and such are welcome, too!]
